In the history of Italian art the name of Fano appears recorded for the first time in relation to the Augustan imperial period. It was then, in fact, that the so-called Arch of Augustus was erected.
It cannot be forgotten that in those same years Marco Vitruvio Pollione, the famous author of De Architectura, built his famous Basilica in Fano.
